Community Outreach

Aziza’s Place is unique in that it seeks to enhance the quality of life for its resident children as well as for their families, its staff, and the community as a whole.

Family/Community Outreach
Beginning in 2010, the AP team ramped up its efforts to extend services to families of our resident children. Through consistent weekly and open communication, counseling, financial planning and health care assistance, we seek to tackle issues that plague the impoverished communities our children come from. While there are many resources for those in poverty in Cambodia, they are many times unknown to those in need. Aziza’s Place connects our families in need with those critical resources.

Staff Training and Leadership Development
Aziza’s Place provides career and personal development opportunities for our staff members. We offer support for career development and leadership classes along with help with university tuition. Daily English classes are taught by volunteers to staff who want to learn or brush up on their language skills.

NGO Resource Sharing
We recognize that resource sharing among NGOs is integral to the success of Aziza’s Place and the community it serves. Phnom Penh is rich in NGO resources with over 1,000 organizations in the capital city. AP is part of a community sharing initiative to increase the dialogue and resources between NGOs and is always looking for new outlets and ways to create partnerships.

Recent Accomplishments within the Community

  • Program coordinators have connected two family members of AP residents with employment opportunities, working in a local restaurant. This employment offers a secure income, safer working conditions, benefits of Accident and Health Insurance, and allowance for annual leave and sick days.
  • Aziza’s Place hired 2 family members who were former trash pickers as night time security guards in 2009.
  • Aziza’s Place began the Cambodian Youth Film Education Program in February 2010 which includes young adults from three organizations aside from AP.
  • English and computer class specifically for the siblings of our residents and for staff commenced in the beginning of 2009.
  • Rescued a sibling of AP resident from a human trafficking scam and providing her with job training and temporary housing.
